Morocco's Wydad Casablanca sacks manager Toshack
Morocco's Wydad Casablanca has fired John Toshack as manager of the team, following a heavy defeat in the CAF Champions League semifinal against Zamalek.
Wydad took the decision after 4-0 disastrous loss in Alexandria, Egypt, saying the former Real Madrid and Wales manager's contract had been "terminated with immediate effect", the club said in a statement on Saturday.
"We offered John Toshack's staff all the necessary financial, technical and logistical conditions in order to achieve a good result," the club said, adding that Friday's failure showed "a real management problem."
After taking charge in June 2014, he led Wydad to the Moroccan title in his first campaign and followed with the runners-up spot last season to secure African Champions League football. But, the 67-year-old manager had a tough season debut after his team also disqualified from Morocco's Cup last week.
Toshack was a legendary player for Cardiff City, Liverpool and Wales and, as a manager, won a Spanish league title with Real Madrid and led Swansea City from the bottom division to the summit of English football.
Apart from his six years as manager of Wales, Toshack's two years with Wydad is his longest spell in a job since 2000.
