Désert Extra, will be the cultural, touristic and sporting event of the beginning of the year in the south, governorate of Tataouine, which will be organised on January 9-11, 2017 in Douiret to enhance the rich historical heritage and the geographical diversity of the region and to promote its tourism vocation.
This event, organised by the Association for the Development and Safeguarding of the Environment and Heritage in Kalaa Acharguia, will be marked by the organisation of a series of economic and social activities for the region and promotion of the "Image of Tatatouine as a cultural and tourist destination.
The organisers aim in particular to make known the historical monuments and archeology of the region, witness of the civilisations such as the troglodytes, the mausoleums and the rocks engraved with drawings which go back to prehistory.
Tataouine is also full of palaces such as those of Douiret and Guermassa and Amazighs dating back to the Punic period as well as the Roman ramparts, like the one of Tlalet and Fatnassa not to mention the dams, wells and basins, historical monuments still visible in all the region.
The event "Desert Extra" will be inaugurated by a folkloric concert entitled "The poetry and the drummer" and a show for children. The second day will be marked by a 42-kilometer marathon in the mountain trails through Bir Thlatheen, Jerjer, Ras El-Ouadi and Douiret followed by a traditional lunch in the town of Remada.
A fair of craft products including traditional food and clothing of the region such as margoum, kachabia, bornous and abaya will also be held.
In order to explore the range of natural sources and encourage investment, a visit will be organised in the region of Ain Charchara in the Semar delegation. A camp under the Jazz music is scheduled the same day at the palace of Douiret.
The programme of "Desert Extra" also includes a visit to the mountain villages of Tataouine and a tribute to group of representatives of the internal security forces and national defense.
